Environmental health laws and policies were often part of larger efforts to
promote workplace safety or eliminate pollution. As the overall framework for
environmental health law is weak, and the resources to support the laws are
limited, environmental health professionals tend to focus on the strongest
areas rather than developing connections between the laws.
Environmental health laws developed by state government are tracked by the National
Conference of State Legislatures. Federal environmental health laws are
implemented by various agencies within the Department of Health and Human
Services (including ATSDR, CDC, FDA, HRSA, IHS, and NIH), as well as the
Department
of Housing and Urban Development, Department
of Labor, and Environmental Protection Agency.
